When a customer's need in premises changes because of for example field of- or organisational change, they contact the Danish Building and Property Agency.

The Customer and the Danish Building and Property Agency then carry out a cover of the customer's needs with the aims of finding the solution, which best meets the customer's needs and the state's short and long term interests.

In order to satisfice the customer's needs, we have different possibilities:

  • Area expansion or reduction and/or renovation or modernisation of existing leases
  • Localisation in government property
  • Localisation in private leases
  • Development
  • Purchase of property

In dialog with the customer the Danish Building and Property Agency covers the possibilities related to the specific case. This will usually lead to different solution models, which the Danish Building and Property Agency analyse and work out business cases on. The solution models are presented to the customer supplemented with recommendations from the Danish Building and Property Agency. Against this background, the customer can make a final decision on which solution to choose.

In regard to the central administration, the police and the courts the Danish Building and Property Agency has exclusive competence to provide premises solutions. The university customers can enter into private leases, which is established practice. 

Analysis of potential

An analysis of the government's usage of office- and archive premises made by the Danish Building and Property Agency, shows that more than 100 million kroner can be saved each year if 4,500 government employees works in more effective buildings.

The saving can be obtained by moving out of the centre of Copenhagen to new energy efficient office premises on the outskirts of Copenhagen e.g. areas such as Valby or Oerestad. The money can be saved because the rent is cheaper, and it is possible to obtain an office refurbishment making room for more workplaces under the same roof. At the same time, the new offices will be energy-efficient and therefore the operating costs will be lower.
